“Tension-Span” Architecture Exhibition: The Tension and Debate on the History of Indonesia’s Modern Architecture
Date November 28, 2007–January 11, 2008
Venue Jakarta, Indonesia
Organisers Erasmus Huis and Centre of Architecture Documentation IAI Jakarta
The exhibition featured Indonesian architecture done in the period of 1910–2000, which was generally marked by disagreement among architects. Thus, it is this ‘tension’ in architecture that the exhibition aimed to capture. Exploring architecture in Indonesia through the influence of euro-centrism, modernism and regionalism, the exhibition also showcased how the younger generation of architects have been coming up with environmentally conscious designs.
